Year Three 2021 - 2022

Dear Year 3 pupils, parents and carers,

Welcome to Year 3!  After a very strange and unsettling time, I am now so looking forward to starting a happy and productive new school year.

I am happy to say that school is returning to ‘normal’ as of September, with a number of procedures in place which were adopted during last year.  This is to continue to make the school a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.

In year 3 this year we have lots of exciting English, maths, science and new topic work, including the Iron Age to Stone Age and geographical skills, just waiting to happen!!

Please ensure you have a school/reading bag.  This will help you stay organised, carry any homework and anything else you may need for a school day.

English and maths homework will be set each week.  It would be fantastic if parents could:

  • encourage children with their homework and remind them to bring it into school, on time, to be marked
  • listen to them read daily and talk about what they have read
  • practice their times tables daily
  • help them learn to tell the time

Often, children are taught in different ways to the way their parents were taught at school.  Therefore if there is any work you are unsure about, please do not hesitate to ask me.  I will be only too happy to help willing parents.

Please send your child into school in their PE kit on their timetabled days (Tuesday & Friday).  See uniform policy for details.  This is to ensure your child can access the full curriculum and take part in other exciting sporting opportunities.  Please do not send children into school with alternative tops and other items of clothing.

Parents, please read all letters sent home with the children so that you are aware of any events and exciting things going on in school throughout the school year.  Don’t forget to mark those dates on your calendar.  Studies show that parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement.  We hope you will make it a priority this year to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ring or call into school to see me.  The best times to reach me are at lunchtimes and after school.

Once again, welcome to Year 3.  Let’s work together to make this a fantastic new year!
