Light Presentations- Y6

This week in science the children presented their very own Light Workshop. Last week, the had an opportunity to plan and rehearse their ‘lesson’. They spoke about how light travels and how we see things. The children had to be clear and factual, and work together to present their information.

The children worked in groups to discuss various light sources: both man-made and natural and even spoke about how shadows are formed. They used a piece of wool to demonstrate how light travels and how we are able to see things.

  • I can recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines.
  • I can use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye.
  • I can explain that we see things because light travels from light sources to our eyes or from light sources to objects and then to our eyes.
  • I can use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.
