WW2 Visitor- Y6

This week we had a special visitor in Year Six. Michael Thame, an author, came to speak to us all about his Grandfather’s experience during World War Two. He has used his Grandfather’s stories to help him write a set of children’s books that we now have in our class library.

When he was in, Michael read sections of his book to us and went through each character and what happened to them during the war. We heard a true account of an evacuee and even looked at some pictures from the war.

Michael brought in a gas mask and allowed everyone to feel its weight and see how it was used during the war. We know it was crucial to carry a gas mask around during WW2 because of the dangers presented by the enemy. Michael even brought along a suitcase with some of the clothes that the children would’ve taken with them- it even included underpants!!

Everyone was given a tag to fill in with their details, just like the children had during the war when they were evacuated. We learnt so much about how the children felt when they were evacuated and it linked into our trip to the cinema perfectly.
