Year Six Letter

Dear Parents,

I hope that you have all been keeping safe and well over the past few months. I am writing to you to let you know the arrangements as of Monday 15th June. As you know, the government has recommended that schools reopen to year six and for those of you that requested a place, your child will be back in school on Monday.

School made a video last week to show the children what the school will be like and to help them prepare for their return. I would like you to talk to your child about the following changes please.

There are some slight changes to our day in order to keep both the staff and children safe. The school day for children in year six will start at 8:55 and end at 3:05, this will limit the number of children and adults at the school gate.  The children should arrive at the school gate at the allocated time and then they will be asked to line up on socially distanced markers on the floor outside of the year six classroom and will be greeted by myself. Parents will not be allowed to enter the school.

School uniform is not required, but you will be expected to wear PE kit on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We will be having two additional Forest School sessions with Mr Isherwood on Tuesday and Wednesday so please dress appropriately (wellies and raincoats may be best).

For children on packed lunches, please send it in, in a disposable bag so that everything can go into the bin after lunch. Children will also need a FULL clearly labelled water bottle which can be refilled throughout the day. We will eat lunch in our classroom (or outside if the weather is nice).  We will also have our own allocated toilets on the key stage two corridor which have been labelled and children will be allocated one.

The children in year six that are returning have been split into two bubbles, one group will be with myself and Miss Pickering and the other will work in the year five classroom with Miss Lynch and Miss Hamilton. The desks have all been spaced out and the children will be asked to remain in their chairs to limit movement around the classroom. The children will be provided with all the resources that they need so please do not send them in with any pencil cases or books. I will also not be sending any reading books home and any homework provided will be set online (Google Classroom or Seesaw).

For the children that are not returning, work will be uploaded daily onto Seesaw that mirrors the lessons being taught in school. As always, if you need any help or support with any of it, please let me know. My email address is:

The day will go something like this:

08:55 - arrive, hang up bags / coats, wash hands.

09:30 - Maths

Wash hands

10:30 - Playtime - IMPORTANT - the playground will be sectioned off - we will not mix with any other groups of children.

11:00 - come in wash hands again and then English

12:15 - wash hands and eat lunch (outside if possible)

1:30 - wash hands and then begin afternoon activities: PE, Science, Topic, RE, Forest School etc.

3:05 - hometime- children will be brought out to parents or sent home (if they have permission to walk alone).

I know that this seems like a lot has changed but I will do my best to ensure that we have lots of fun and that the children feel happy and safe. I will also be continuing to ring any children that are not in school to check in and say hello.

If you have any questions or require any further information please either call school (0161 226 6303) or email

I look forward to seeing you all soon,

Miss Michael
